Medicare LIS/MSP Virtual Training for Enrollment Assisters
PACHC has entered into a partnership with the PA Department of Aging (PDA) to train enrollment assisters at health centers to provide enrollment assistance and enroll Medicare Beneficiaries eligible for the Low-Income Subsidy program (LIS) or the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) through intensified outreach and enrollment assistance. This required training must be completed before providing assistance to likely Medicare eligibles.
Medicare Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), also known as the Medicare Part D Extra Help Program helps eligible beneficiaries who have limited income to pay for Medicare Part D prescription drug costs. LIS provides assistance in paying for Part D monthly premiums, annual deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. Also, individuals enrolled in the Extra Help program do not have a gap in prescription drug coverage, also known as the coverage gap, or the Medicare “donut hole.” The amount of subsidy depends on the individual’s income compared to the Federal Poverty Level and resource limitations set by the Social Security Act.
Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) are federally funded program administered by each individual state for people with limited income and resources. In some cases, Medicare Savings Programs may also pay Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments if you meet certain conditions.
